There’s a New Directory in Town!
Every article you read nowadays for the small business person says
“Link! Link! Link! For those in business, we understand this to mean
link to other sites. The more links you have to other sites, the more
of a chance you have in getting your name out to the public. For the
customer, this is an easy way of finding other like businesses that you
might be interested in. Think of a business in a small town. Everyone
knows that store is there. They pass it every day and, occasionally,
they might stop in. But on the Internet, there are thousands of small
stores on the way to where you are going. Most people don’t even notice
the stores because they are searching for a particular store. It is
easy for the customer, in search of an item, to totally miss the
thousands of other stores they pass. Businesses, especially craft
businesses, use the links as a way to either entice customers in or to
advertise their sites on other like sites.
Renee of
An Elegant Connection has taken this one step further in a
unique way. She has turned her links pages into a directory for
convenience of both the business person and the customer. Living up to
the name of her business, this site is both elegant and tasteful. All
businesses are listed by the product they sell. Each category also has
picture of one of the items you will find in that category.
Businesses also have a chance to offer their products by buying small
advertisements on the pages to give their business that extra boost.
Clicking on a product list will take you to that department where you
will find a list of businesses that are associated with that
department. Each business will also have a small description of what
they sell. This gives those businesses a chance that they would not
normally have to pitch their products to a new audience. The name of
the business will also be a hyperlink to that business.
In the fast growing internet world, all businesses need and want every
chance they can get to get their name out into the public and show their
wares.
Almost all craft businesses have a links page for the convenience of the
customer. Be sure to check out those pages when you are wandering
through a web site. Or is you just want to browse, pull up a craft site
and look at their links page. You just never know when you might see
something that will catch your eye.
Happenings in my
part of the World.
Well, I am working my fingers to the bones this month. I have a craft
show coming up this Friday at Mustang Engineering. In
Houston.
Products that I am taking are being taken out of their boxes and checked
to make sure there is nothing wrong and are being tagged. I am also
doing a trial run of putting everything on my table to see how it will
look. Don’t want to leave anything to chance here. This will be an
inside show with one table each. So, I have to make sure all items I
want to sell will be placed in a good position. One doesn’t want to
just pile things up on the table. Wish me luck!
Remember the holidays that are coming up! St Patrick’s Day is March
17! Easter is March 27! Administrative Professional’s Day is April
27! May 3rd is National Teacher’s Day! And the Biggie is
MOTHER’S DAY!!!!! This is on May 3rd! Better start
searching for that perfect gift for your Mother-in-law!
Don’t forget that most crafters have a newsletter. Each crafter does
their newsletter different. Some like to just list all the items they
have for sale. Others like to mention craft projects. Still others
like to mention newsy items along with their sales. You can find a
newsletter that fits what you like and sign up for it. My newsletter is
more of an informative newsletter on many different things. I like to
tell about what makes crafters tick. What got them started in the
business and why they do what they love. Occasionally, I will throw a
few how-to crafty items in. I include craft sells, items that I am
working on, and a bit of information on craft shows in the area. I am
also always on the outlook for new ideas, interesting tidbits, and
anything that is crafty. If you have something you would like to share,
please feel free to send it to me.
